Some of the books I have read recently, in no particular order:
- Beyond, by Stephen Walker
- Starry Messenger, by Neil deGrasse Tyson
- Rebooting AI, by Gary Marcus and Ernest Davis
- The Experience Machine, by Andy Clark
- Blood and Ruins, by Richard Overy
- Wolfszeit, by Harald Jähner
- How UFOs Conquered the World, by David Clarke
- Snow Crash, by Neal Stephenson
- The Strangest Man, by Graham Farmelo
- American Prometheus, by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin
American Prometheus is the basis for the movie Oppenheimer, which I have not watched1 yet. I am still in the midst of that book.
For Rebooting AI there’s also a complementary podcast: The Trouble with AI.
All the books are worth reading in my view. I have read a few others, but wasn’t convinced.

I have not seen it either. It’s interesting to observe how the contemporary use of the English language as heard and read these days seems to lose the distinction between see, watch, and behold (or their synonyms). In the same vein, I should write “from”, not “by”, in the above list. But I am old-fashioned. ↩︎
